Best 7 Layer Bean Dip Recipe
7 layer bean dip is a great snack for parties or just hanging out with friends on weekend while watching movies.
The best thing about this delicious recipe for seven layer bean dip is extremely easy to make! It takes a little bit of preparation and cooking, but don’t let that stop you. The cooking involved in this bean dip is really simple and I promise to guide you through it (if you need help).
This recipe will make a small amount of bean dip – about enough to feed 2-4 people. However, if you need to make a larger amount for a bigger group, it can easily be doubled or tripled (you’ll just need a larger serving dish).

Ingredients
Here is the list of ingredients that you will need:
- 1 can Rosarita Refried Beans – you can use any kind of refried beans that you would like, but I always use Rosarita. It is up to you whether you would like to use the vegetarian type or traditional.
- 1/2 Cup Sour Cream
- 1/2 Cup Guacamole – You can either buy premade guacamole or make your own with some avocados, lime juice, garlic powder, onion powder and salt.
- 2 1/4 ounces of Chopped Green Onions – About 4 green onions or 1/2 cup.
- 2 Tomatoes, chopped into small cubes – I use Roma tomatoes for this because they’re a bit firmer than ordinary tomatoes, but you can use whatever you prefer. About 2 1/4 ounces or 1/2 cup.
- 1 Small can of Sliced Black Olives (2 ¼ ounces)
- 4 ounces of finely shredded Cheddar Cheese
- 4 ounces of finely shredded Mozzarella Cheese
- 1 large bag of Tortilla Chips – I use the “Scoop” kind because it makes it easier to… well, scoop your dip.

Preparation
Preparing the Refried Beans - We’re going to start by cooking the beans. All you need to do is heat them in a pan on the stove until they are easily stirred and creamy. While you are cooking the beans, add 1 1/2 tablespoons of sour cream and just a sprinkling of cheddar and mozzarella cheese. If you have other spices, such as cayenne that you enjoy in your beans, now would be the time to add them.
Making the Layers
Once the beans are finished, add them to your platter dish. I usually use a 12 inch by 12 inch platter that is about 2 or 3 inches deep. Smooth them down so they are in an even layer in the platter.
Second Layer, Sour Cream – Add a thin layer of sour cream. Don’t go crazy with this! Just enough to coat the refried bean layer with about 1/4 inch of sour cream.
Third Layer, Guacamole – Add a thin layer of guacamole following the same directions I gave you for the sour cream (just enough to cover the sour cream with about 1/4 inch of guacamole).
Fourth Layer, Green Onions – Cover the layer of guacamole with your green onions (1/2 cup or 2 1/4 ounces)
Fifth Layer, Tomatoes – Add your cubed tomatoes over top of your green onion layer.
Sixth Layer, Sliced Black Olives – Add your black olives over the top of your green onion layer.
Seventh Layer, Shredded Cheese – Sprinkle enough of your cheddar and mozzarella cheese over the top of you olive layer. Use as much cheese as you’d like. Personally, I like to be able to see the other ingredients through the cheese, but if you want to add more you should feel free to do so!
After you have completed your layering, you can let your dip sit in the refrigerator for about an hour or two so the beans firm up a little bit and set before you serve.
And that’s it! It’s really simple, tastes great and is always a big hit at parties and get-togethers. Keep an eye out for more of my recipes, and let me know how you my recipe for 7 layer bean dip by leaving a comment!
