Best White Castle Slider Recipe
Today’s White Castle recipe/Sliders recipe is a favorite with a lot of people and one that I really love to eat!
If you haven’t ever had a real White Castle, or have only been able to buy the frozen variety from your local supermarket, then this will certainly be a real treat for you. If you are from the south, then Krystal Burger is the chain that sells these types of burgers.
This slider recipe is really easy to prepare and all of the ingredients can easily be found at your local market. The preparation time is about 1 1/2 hours, but that’s because it makes it easier if you freeze your burger patties for about an hour before cooking them.

Ingredients
- 1 pound of ground beef – Be sure to get the leanest beef that you can find, I suggest trying something with 7% fat or less. The content of the beef is usually printed on the package (93% ground beef, 7% fat, etc.).
- 1 Tablespoon Onion Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 Tablespoons of Dried Onions – These are just dehydrated onions that you add water to.
- 1 1/2 Cups of Water
- 1 Beef Bouillon Cube
- 12 Dinner Rolls – Use Sarah Lee or any type of Potato Rolls that are available in your area. Just make sure that they are as close to square as possible for a more authentic experience =)
- Kosher Dill Pickle Spears – Slice these into very thin pieces about the thickness of a dime or so.
- 4 Slices of American Cheese – Fold these in 1/4s, so you get 4 little square pieces of cheese from each slice
- Ketchup
- Mustard

Preparing the Hamburger Meat
Step 1: Mix the 1 pound of ground beef, 1 Tablespoon of Onion Powder, 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 cup of water together in a bowl or food processor (if you have one). You just want to make sure that everything is blended into the beef really well.
Step 2: Place the beef on wax paper, plastic wrap or foil. Now cover it with another piece of wax paper or plastic wrap.
Step 3: Take a rolling pin and roll the hamburger meat until it’s very thin (about 1/4 inch or less). I try to make it only slightly thicker than a quarter (the piece of money, that is).
Step 4: Remove the top layer of wax paper and make the hamburger into a giant square of about 12 inches by 12 inches.
Step 5: Take a spatula and cut the meat into 3 inch x 3 inch squares (you should have 16 tiny patties). Don’t worry about going all the way through the meat or separating the patties, you’ll want them to stay a little attached to each other.
Step 6: Take a straw and poke 5 holes in each of the 3x3 squares (the pattern looks like a 5 on the side of a dice).
Step 7: Replace the wax paper cover over top of the meat and place in the freezer for about 1 hour.
Preparing the Onions
Step 8: Place the 2 Tablespoons of Dried Onions, Beef Bouillon Cube and 1/2 cup of water in a frying pan and sauté them over medium/low heat. Continue stirring the onions until they are soft and add more water as needed. When the onions are soft, remove them from the heat until you are ready to cook the hamburger patties.
Preparing the Rolls
Slice each roll in half so you have a top and bottom bun (like a hamburger). Add ketchup, mustard, pickle slices and cheese on the bottom buns (you’ll need the top buns for cooking).
Cooking the Hamburger Patties
Step 9: When you are ready to cook the hamburger, break off 4 of the frozen 3x3 patties. Preheat the pan with the onions on medium/low heat and add enough water to barely cover the bottom of the pan (this is to help steam the hamburgers so they get cooked all the way through).
Note: If you have a large enough pan, you can cook all 12 hamburgers at the same time. Just break the burger patties apart from one another.
Step 10: Place the hamburger in the pan, cover with a lid and let cook for 2-3 minutes.
Step 11: Flip patties over, place the top of your bun on each pattie, replace the lid and let them cook for another 2-3 (allowing the top bun to get steamed a little).
Step 12: Remove hamburgers (with a little bit of the onion) and put them on the bottom buns and enjoy! You will have 4 left over patties that you can use to make 4 of your burgers into double decker sliders =)
